Numerical Analysis of GDI Flash Boiling Sprays Using Different Fuels

Modeling the fuel injection process in modern gasoline direct engines plays a principal role characterizing in–cylinder mixture formation and subsequent combustion process. Flash boiling, which usually occurs when is injected into an ambient pressure below saturation of liquid, characterized by fast breakup evaporation rates but could lead to undesired behaviors such as spray collapse, significantly effects preparation. Four mono–component fuels have been used this study with aim achieving various flashing utilizing Spray G injector from Engine Combustion Network (ECN). The numerical framework was based on Lagrangian approach first validated for baseline G1 condition. model compared experimental vapor liquid penetrations, axial gas velocity, droplet sizes morphology then extended flash boiling condition iso–octane, n–heptane, n–hexane, n–pentane. A good agreement achieved most terms development shape, although computed pentane not able capture collapse. Overall, adopted methodology promising can be engine modeling conventional alternative fuels.
